Do you think Hitting Children is necessary?
I have come across many people who think that raising kids without hitting them... is just not possible!
How will you discipline them? How will you teach them good manners?
How will you enforce good habits?
Hitting children can be appealing as a quick fix. But then you rule with fear.
Fortunately, I was able to stop hitting altogether a few years ago. Earlier too, it was pretty rare. But when I decided that it just wouldn't happen, things changed.
Yes, it is more hard work.
Yes, it requires more patience.
Yes, it required being more creative and innovative when it comes to finding alternatives!
But,
My son appreciates that hard work. He understands and resonates with my goals! He is ready to be a partner in parenting!
My son wants to learn to be patient too. The seeds which are being sown, and the doors which are being opened are fabulous!
My son observes the effort I put in, and he feels valued - worthy of all these efforts. Now the relationships he creates in the world outside need not be poor compensation for a lack of attachment and attention at home!
Let me be honest, it is not easy. Change is not supposed to be comfortable after all. But in the end, it's more than worth it!
