Falling in Love with Questions

How many times do we label our children as question boxes? It's not a bad label indeed. But is our "connotation" always positive?

--------

So, in my last post, I talked about new beginnings. I am grateful that I am writing the second post in the same month I began this blog.

Not a big victory. I know a post a week would be better, but hey! You gotta start somewhere. And celebrating small victories is the way to go.

In my last post, I also talked about answering a question with a question. I mentioned that it came from an experienced mom. Why is that? Why is it important to answer some questions with questions? Well, sometimes, it's good to let children explore themselves, and find some of the answers themselves.

But of course, more often than not, for your little question boxes, you have to become the answer box. Just saying it on paper, that curiosity is their strength, and kids should be encouraged to ask questions wouldn't help.

You have to be ready to be interrupted with apparently silly questions - difficult times.

You have to be ready to repeat answers, sometimes.

You have to be ready to accept that you don't know the answer, many times.

You have to be ready to have your answer rejected, increasingly frequent times.

You have to be ready to face questions -- All. The. Time.

And for all this, mere acceptance will not help.

You have to be ready to... fall in love...

with inquisitiveness,
with curiosity,
with how this process shapes their thoughts, helps them develop,
with... questions.

Let's fall in love with Questions.
